It is time to start preparing for Christmas! We are expecting a higher demand this year and last year (2022) we helped 2011 kids!
Our Christmas room is open all year around, come and take a tour. We accept donations all year and are in need of the following items:
- Coloring Books & Crayons
- Teen/Adult Coloring Books and Art Supplies
- Level 1, 2 & 3 Reading Books
- Young Men & Women toiletries (body wash, shampoo, makeup, nail polish, etc)
- Clothing for toddlers, kids and teens (adult sizes)
- Footballs
- Board Games
- Educational Toys & Games
- Remote Control Toys and LEGOS

Birthday in a Bag Parties
Birthdays in a Bag is our original program started by our founder, Jeanne Fowler. As a kid, she never had a birthday party. So 20 years ago, in 2002, she decided to prepare a bag full of stuff for a party. Each bag comes with invitations, cake mix and frosting, paper products, plastic ware, candles, balloons, party favors, tablecloth, and a special gift for the birthday child. Donations needed for this program include cake mixes, frosting, plates, napkins, plastic cups/ware, candles, tablecloths, party favors, balloons, and streamers
Speaking Engagements
Big Family representatives are always happy and excited to talk about foster children and how we serve them. We will speak to college/school classes, church groups, exchange clubs, social workers and law enforcement, and foster parents on child abuse through the eyes of a child. Christmas Support
In 2022, we provided Christmas over 2000 foster children each receiving seven gifts selected from their wish list. We always need clothing, games, dolls, toys, stuffed animals, blankets, baby toys, etc. Please see our Amazon wish list for more ideas and information. Volunteer Opportunities
Host one of our themed monthly drives to support the Big Family of Michigan mission (see Host a Drive drop down)
Organize your church, company, social group, friends, and family to hold an event that benefits Big Family of Michigan.
Attend Big Family events throughout the year (check the calendar, newsletter and Facebook for upcoming events)
Assist in the office at the warehouse with your computer skills when needed.
Be an elf during the holiday season – shopping, wrapping, and delivering.
Identify groups that may need to be the recipients of Big Family drives for school supplies, holiday gifts, etc.
Donate to Programs
School Supplies – ink pens, spiral notebooks in college rule, highlighters, glue sticks, rulers, mechanical pencils, filler paper in college rule, color pencils and markers, safety scissors, 1-inch binders, pocket folders, pocket calculators and more!
Aging Out – all new items only please, pots and pans, dish towels, blankets, bedding, bath towels, toasters, coffee makers, bakeware, utensils, dishes, flatware, cutlery, rugs, waste baskets, table lamps, mattress pads and pillows, cleaning supplies, paper goods, small appliances, comforters, rugs, and more. For Christmas – all new items only please, clothing for infants, toddlers, kids and teens, boots for all ages, toys, games art supplies, personal grooming items, puzzles, crafts, jewelry, fashion scarves, nail products, eye make-up, skin care, fragrance for men and women, razors and shaving items, and more.
